The Childcare course offers you the essential skills necessary for pursuing a career in childcare. Whether you’re looking to work as a Nursery Assistant, Pre-school Assistant or even a Nanny, the Childcare course provides you with the skills to be a success in your new career path.

The course covers 13 core units, allowing you to hone your skills, and giving you the opportunity to put your knowledge into practise through placement; this allows you to gain real life experience which will prove invaluable when you’re looking to start working once you’ve completed the course.

The Childcare course helps you to develop your knowledge within a childcare setting, and equips you with the specific skills needed to be a competent children and young people’s worker. The course is paper-based, which means you have flexibility surrounding your studies. You’ll be able to learn around your commitments, at a time that suits you – without the worry of attending lessons or online seminars!

On average, you can complete the course between 4-8 months, although this is dependent on how quickly you grasp the learning materials, how much time you can dedicate to your studies, and how quickly you can locate your placement. Just because you’re not in a classroom doesn’t mean you’re left to complete the course on your own – you’ll receive ongoing tutor support, so if you have any queries, they’ll always be someone on hand to help!

Once you’ve successfully completed the Childcare course, you’ll receive the NCFE Children and Young People’s Workforce Certificate Level 2, and be ready to start your career in the childcare industry!

Description

The Childcare course covers 13 units, with many of these units requiring placement. This ensures you’re putting your knowledge into practice, and furthers your learning with real life experience, enabling you to be better prepared for a career in childcare when you graduate.

Throughout the course, you’ll develop your knowledge in areas that include:

  • Supporting child and young person’s development
  • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
  • Supporting children and young people’s positive behaviour
  • Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children and young people’s settings

You’ll be studying for the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Children and Young People’s Workforce QCF qualification, which enables you to work towards becoming a competent practitioner of childcare. The course has been developed to provide you with applicable knowledge and competence of the childcare specific skills that can be used in many childcare settings.

The course is paper-based, which means you can learn from home, at a time and pace that suits you. You don’t have the pressure of attending lessons, or being available for online seminars; learn in a way that suits your current commitments, and fit studying around work or home life.

You will have access to dedicated tutor support throughout your course, so should you have any queries or need support during your studies, there’ll be someone on hand to help! You will be required to submit an assessment after each unit to your tutor for reviewing and grading. This helps you progress through the course with regular feedback. The course requires you to undertake 50 hours of work experience, whereby you can put your theoretical knowledge into practise. It will be your responsibility to find suitable placement.

As standard, you’ll receive specialist career support which is available for up to 3 years from enrolling on your course. The Career Support Team help you in finding the most suitable role for you once you’ve graduated. They’ll touch base with you during your course to ensure you’re on track, and help to refine your CV so it’ll get you noticed by employers. You will also be introduced to our leading corporate partners, like Nuffield Health, to help you secure your new role!

Once you have successfully completed all elements of the Childcare course, you will be awarded the NCFE Children and Young People’s Workforce Certificate Level 2 QCF, an OFSTED regulated certificate that positions you to enter the childcare sector. The QCF qualification for this course has now replaced the NNEB NVQ qualification.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
