This course will cover everything that you need to know about child neglect and what to do if you suspect a child at risk of neglect.
In this course you will look at what child neglect is and what some of the statistics are that surround it, in terms of its prevalence and how cases have increased over the past decade.
You will go into detail in this course about the long-term effects on physical and mental health, emotions, behaviour and educational outcomes. You will also examine what the effects of neglect might be for society as a whole.
This course will give a overview of what some of the signs of neglect might be, as well as why some children may never disclose that they are being neglected or abused.
You will finish this course examining what procedures are taken when a cause for concern is reported and how children's services respond to this.
This course is suitable for anyone that works with children.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

- Unit 1 - Introduction to Child Neglect - In unit one of our Child Neglect Awareness course you will be looking at what child neglect is and what some of the statistics are that surround it, you will also look at some of the factors that make children more susceptible to abuse in general and some of the risk factors that are closely associated with neglect specifically.
- Unit 2 -The impact of Child Neglect - In this unit you will focus on the impact of child neglect by looking at the long-term effects on physical and mental health, emotions, behaviour and educational outcomes, as well as examining what the effects of neglect might be for society as a whole. You will also be looking at the impacts neglect can have on children and their families.
- Unit 3 - Signs of Abuse and Neglect - This unit will give a basic overview of what some of the signs of neglect might be as well as why some children may never disclose that they are being neglected or abused. The unit will end with two case studies that outline the impact that neglect can have on children.
- Unit 4 - Parenting Differences - This unit examines what kind of parenting style can lead to children being neglected. In this unit you will also consider the threshold of needs that are used by children's services to determine the kinds of support needed if concerns are raised that a child is experiencing neglect.
- Unit 5 - Reporting and Responding to Child Neglect Concerns - In this final unit of our Child Neglect Awareness course you will examine the procedures taken when a cause for concern is reported and how children's services respond. You will also explore the systems that are in place showing what happens at each stage of a formal investigation into an allegation of neglect.
