Description

Health care assistants role are generally to assist patients’ with their overall comfort such as assisting with bathing, monitoring and observing patients, and ensure patient’s safety. Health care assistants usually work in clinic or community settings alongside a qualified healthcare professional. HCAs are expected to follow a code of conduct and makes sure that does not fall below expected standards.

HCAs are expected to serve patient meals and assists with feeding them if help is needed. Respecting patients and communicating effectively are also a good practice to maintain a standard of assisting patients.

At the end of this course, students shall learn how to:

(1) be aware of health care assistant responsibilities and assertiveness;

(2) know diet and health care;

(3) recognize cleanliness and health care;

(4) be familiar with blood pressure and venepuncture and

(5) understand the physiology of skin healing.

To achieve these goals, this course shall make use of interactive materials to present the concepts of the topics to be discussed. Assessments shall be done after the entire course to check for knowledge retention and understanding.

Compassionate attitude helps in further understanding the roles and responsibilities of a health care assistant. HCAs are also expected to help with the paperwork.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered.
