The Certificate in Regulated Equity Release (CeRER®) is an appropriate qualification to advise on Equity Release. Qualified mortgage advisers can gain an additional specialised qualification to assist clients to select the most appropriate equity release option from a vast range of products. CeRER® gives candidates the professional qualification and the knowledge to enter the industry, whether as an employed or self employed adviser. Equity Release enables elderly clients to extract equity from their main residence to fund retirement or long term care. The qualification is easily achievable with an unbelievable quick exam turnaround.

Real Time Web based: 2 Days (9.30am to 4.30pm). Courses are run during the week and weekend. Delivered via Cisco webex.

Over the 2 days we help break down the entire syllabus to enable students to understand the content and to pass their exam with confidence. Full tutor support is provided. We offer a pass guarantee. This means students can re-attend any course that they have failed for free (please note there will be a resit fee with the LIBF and new material cost (if applicable).

Exam: The Equity Release exam is assessed through a single 2-hour multiple choice exam, split into two sections:

  • Unit 1 – Fundamentals of Equity Release: 50 multiple-choice questions
  • Unit 2 – Equity Release Solutions: 3 case studies each with 10 linked multiple-choice questions.

The pass mark is 70% per unit.

Who is this course for?

The course is for any person who wants to gain a professional qualification to be able to advise on equity release. Students must already be CeMAP qualified in order to complete this qualification.


Students must already be CeMAP qualified. Students that have past financial experience and good numerical skills are at an advantage.

Career path

On completion of the qualification students can become either an employed or a self employed equity release adviser.

What does study method mean?

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

What is an ‘endorsed’ course?

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body’s logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as ABC Awards and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
