At MKLC we have designed the Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care content to be accessible for all, the course lessons are self paced, so if you feel confident in certain areas you progress quickly through these to the areas you wish to focus more on. You can also complete the assignments in the order you prefer. You will receive feedback from your tutor within 48 hours of submission, but each piece is independent so you can submit pieces whilst waiting on feedback from another.

Unit 1 – Principles of personal development in adult social care settings –2 Credits.

The aim of this unit is to enable the learner to understand how to reflect on their own practice and how this can be used to develop their own knowledge.

Unit 2 – Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings –2 Credits

The aim of this unit is to enable the learner to understand equality, diversity and inclusion.

Unit 3 – Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care - 3 Credits

The aim of this unit is to enable learners to recognise and respond to different types of abuse

Unit 4 – Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings –1 Credit

This unit aims to enable learners to understand duty of care and respond to complaints

Unit 5 – Understand the role of the social care worker –1 Credit

The aim of this unit is to enable the learner to understand the working relationships in social care

Unit 6 – Understand person-centred approaches in adult social care settings – 4 Credits

The aim of this unit is to understand what a person-centred approach in social care is and how this is implemented.

Unit 7 – Understand health and safety in social care settings – 5 Credits

The aim of this unit is to understand responsibilities related to health and safety, including risk assessments, accidents, illnesses and infections

Unit 8 – Understand how to handle information in social care settings – 1 Credit

The aim of this unit is to understand how to handle information in an appropriate way and support others to handle information.

Unit 9 – Principles of communication in adult social care settings – 2 Credits

The aim of this unit is to understand how to communicate and meet the communication needs of individuals
