This programme is designed for students seeking to gain proficiency in a range of business topics, tailored to their personal interests and requirements. No prior knowledge is required.

Aims

The aims of this programme are to provide a range of flexible learning opportunities for learners in a broad range of business occupations which reflect current business practice and enable learners to develop and employ skills which directly impact on their contribution to an organisation, and personal effectiveness. The courses will enable students to develop functional specialisms in (for example) marketing or finance whilst also promoting an understanding of their contribution to the organisation as a whole through a core unit which requires students to formulate, test and gain support for improving working practices amongst colleagues.

The units are structured to enable candidates to study subjects relevant to their current learning needs whilst permitting, over time, the accumulation of knowledge and skills.

Assessment of candidates’ learning is centred on practical application of knowledge and in particular on demonstrating learning in the workplace and business improvements.

Objectives

The objectives are to enable learners to:

  • Develop and employ relevant business skills and practices based on current best practice
  • Select a programme of learning which reflects identified learning needs
  • Improve their contribution and effectiveness in an organisation
  • Return to learning through a flexible programme of studies
  • Provide pathways and progression opportunities to specialist qualifications, plus continuing professional development in the fields of management, finance, marketing and human resource development

Description

The course is designed for home study or distance learning and is comprised of comprehensive printed course notes presented in an A4 ring binder, together with course assignments and study guide. Tutor support and a student helpline facility are integral to the course, and students have a full 12 months in which to complete their studies. Actual study time will be of the order of 150 hours.

The course is divided up into five study units, each with one tutor marked assignment to be completed. Students can select any FIVE unots from a seelection of 15, enabling you to choose topics which are most relevant to your learning and development needs.

Each assignment contains approx 8-10 written tasks to be completed which are then submitted to a subject tutor for marking. Where required assignments can be re-submitted after amendment in the event that the assessment standards are not full met on first submission
