Description
What will you learn in this Business Administration and Management
Module 1
In this module you will learn all about What is Business Administration. Business administration is the process of managing workers and allocating resources efficiently and effectively by applying microeconomic principles. The goal is to achieve stability, growth and profitability for a business. Business administration is a function of organizational structure, the desired system of task allocation, coor-dination and supervision. Some businesses choose to have a hierarchical structure.
Module 2
This module will teach you about Business and Organisations. Let’s think about the concept of ‘organisation’. Many definitions are possible, but most of these include the characteristics of people, goals and structures. People are social beings and, by and large, tend to cooperate in interdependent relationships to achieve common aims. Originally people formed a simple family and tribal structures. Today we have evolved into a complex society characterised by large.
Module 3
In this module you will learn all about Management of Business. The importance of management to organisational performance is generally acknowledged; however, its definition is widely contested. The term is used in many different ways by people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Also, the subject is dynamic and changes over time. The result is that no one accepted definition of management exists.
Module 4
This module will teach you about Business Organization Perspectives. We are going to focus, in this chapter, on sociology, psychology, anthropology (the behavioural sciences) and economics. They are by no means the only relevant perspectives. Politics is an area that is particularly relevant to understanding power and control in organisations – this will come up in later chapters of this subject guide.
Module 5
In this module you will learn all about Decision Making. The figure shows how management hierarchies are commonly described. Modern thinking has reduced the layers of management, especially ‘stripping out’ middle managers and ‘empowering’ junior managers.
Module 6
This module will teach you about Approaches to Leadership. Some theorists argue that leadership is an aspect of personality and cannot be learned. Others argue that leadership can be learned. This leads to the study of the relationships between leader and the led, and how leadership styles can be adapted to different situations. Mullins (2010), has provided a helpful framework for the study of leadership. We will look briefly at these approaches in the following pages. Leadership style is often discussed and different models highlight different styles.
Module 7
In this module you will learn all about Management. A business develops in course of time with complexities. With increasing complexities managing the business has become a difficult task. The need of existence of management has increased tremendously. Management is essential not only for business concerns but also for banks, schools, colleges, hospitals, hotels, religious bodies, charitable trusts etc. Every business unit has some objectives of its own.
Module 8
This module will teach you about Definition of Management. Although management as a discipline is more than 80 years old, there is no common agreement among its experts and practitioners about its precise definition. In fact, this is so in case of all social sciences like psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics, political science etc.
Module 9
In this module you will learn all about Characteristics of Management. Goal Oriented : Management is a purposeful activity. It coordinates the efforts of workers to achieve the goals of the organization. The success of management is measured by the extent to which the organizational goals are achieved. It is imperative that the organizational goals must be well-defined and properly understood by the management at various levels.
Module 10
This module will teach you about Management Functions/Process of Management. There is enough disagreement among management writers on the classification of managerial functions. Newman and Summer recognize only four functions, namely, organizing, planning, leading and controlling. Henri Fayol identifies five functions of management, viz. planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating and controlling.
Module 11
In this module you will learn all about Nature of Management. Management has been conceptualized earlier in this lesson, as the social process by which managers of an enterprise integrate and coordinate its resources for the achievement of common, explicit goals. It has developed into a body of knowledge and a separate identifiable discipline during the past six decades. Practice of management as an art is, of course, as old as the organized human effort for the achievement of common goals.
Module 12
This module will teach you about Levels of Management. An enterprise may have different levels of management. Levels of management refer to a line of demarcation between various managerial positions in an enterprise. The levels of management depend upon its size, technical facilities, and the range of production. We generally come across two broad levels of management, viz.
Module 13
In this module you will learn all about Characteristics of Professional Managers. Managers are responsible and accountable : Managers are responsible for seeing that specific tasks are done successfully. They are usually evaluated on how well they arrange for these tasks to the accomplished. Managers are responsible for the actions of their subordinates. The success or failure of subordinates is a direct reflection of managers’ success or failure. All members of an organization.
Module 14
This module will teach you about Principles of Management. A body of principles of management has been developed by Henri Fayol, the father of modern management. Fayol wrote perceptibly on the basis of his practical experience as a manager. Although, he did not develop an integrated theory of management, his principles are surprisingly in tune with contemporary thinking in management theory.
Module 15
In this module you will learn all about What Is Payroll.
Payroll in the sense of “money paid to employees” plays a major role in a company for several reasons. From an accounting perspective, payroll is crucial because payroll and payroll taxes considerably affect the net income of most companies and because they are subject to laws and regulations (e.g. in the US, payroll is subject to federal, state, and local regulations).
Module 16
This module will teach you about Principles Of Payroll Systems. The business of employing people in the UK is regulated by government legislation designed to protect workers. Employees are entitled to receive regular financial reward for their work. The amount is specified in their contract of employment.
