Overview

The Beauty Treatment Consultant Diploma aims to increase the learners knowledge in a wide range of areas related to beauty therapy.

Description

The Beauty Treatment Consultant course you have chosen to study is diverse, with a vast range of subject areas to learn about. The modules you will be looking at include all the requirements for the current national Level 3 qualifications, as well as some additional Level 3 treatments that are not currently prerequisites but are commonly offered as salon treatments with some additional training.

Underpinning each practical unit is:

  • Client consultation and assessment
  • Completion of important documentation
  • Explanation of the treatment
  • Agreeing the treatment
  • Reasons not to treat (contra-indications)
  • Things that can go wrong (contra-actions)
  • Aftercare advice
  • Future treatment needs
  • Client preparation
  • Salon and working area preparation
  • Safe working techniques, including all hygiene measures
  • Compliance with Beauty Industry and Legal Codes of Practice.

The Units you will study are:

Module 1 - Facial and Skincare
In this Module, you will look at cleansing, toning, moisturising, massage, and mask application. You will also look at skin types and analysis, as well as product and ingredient information and selection.

Module 2 - Eyelash and Eyebrow Treatments
Treatments available include eyelash and eyebrow tinting, eyelash lifting and perming, eyebrow shaping, and false lash application. Semi-permanent lashes require advanced training, and are briefly discussed in the last module.

Module 3 - Manicure and Hand Treatments
In this module, you will consider hand and nail treatments, nail art techniques, common problems, and remedial action.

Module 4 - Pedicure and Foot Treatments
In module 4, you will look at foot and nail treatments, common problems, and remedial action. You will also consider luxury hand, nail, and foot treatments.

Module 5 - Waxing and Temporary Methods of Hair Removal
In this module, you will look at salon methods of hair removal, including hot (hard) and warm (soft) waxing. You will also make comparisons with methods used at home.

Module 6 - Advanced Nail Techniques
In module 6, we will take a brief look at gel, acrylic, and fibreglass nails and their importance and relevance to the Level 3 Beauty Therapist.

Module 7 - Make-up Application to the Face
This module includes information on products, tools, and application for face make-up, including day and evening looks.

Module 8 - Science and Cosmetology
This module looks more closely at available products and formulations and their use, electrical safety, and hygiene.

Module 9 - Anatomy and Physiology
Anatomy and physiology are essential parts of the beauty therapist's knowledge. Performing treatments safely and effectively requires the therapist to know what is being worked on and what effects the treatment is having.

Management Units

Module 10 - Health and Safety
Whether you are a salon owner or a junior therapist, you are required by law to have an awareness of your legal and professional responsibilities to ensure your own safety and that of co-workers, clients, and anyone else who may be visiting the premises.

Module 11 - Consultation
Before any treatment is carried out, a full and thorough consultation is done. This ensures that the treatment the client receives is safe and best suits his or her needs. It also requires important paperwork to be completed, which may prove essential in the event of a complaint or legal action.

Module 12 - Promotions and Retailing
As a beauty therapist, the ability to sell is an essential skill. The business will need retail sales to support its income, and it is important that the client is advised about which products he or she should be using.

Module 13 - Reception
How you deal with clients and promote the business will determine how long you are going to be employed! Being a fabulous therapist is pointless if clients are not inclined to book appointments because the reception, receptionist, premises, and/or therapists are unwelcoming – if this is the case, customers will never get close enough to find out how good you are!

Module 14 - Career Opportunities and Continuing Professional Development
This unit summarises what you've learned, looks at further and higher training, and discusses career options open to you. New and exciting developments in the beauty therapy industry are continually cropping up: there are always new treatments to learn, and clients will expect you to know something about each of them!

At the beginning of each module, you will see the tasks that you are required to complete. Some of the information you will find contained within the module, but you will also need to do further research. You may attempt certain tasks as you work through the module, but if you would prefer to read through the entire module first and attempt the tasks second, that is absolutely fine. As you research one task, you may well come across information that will help you in another.

To be awarded the Diploma in Beauty Treatment Consultant, learners are required to successfully complete all fourteen modules.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
