Overview

The BBST® Test Design course is the third module in the Black Box Software Testing series developed by Cem Kaner.

Next class: October 1- 28, 2017 (with Cem Kaner as an instructor)

Class size: 18 - 20 seats;

This online course introduces a large collection of testing techniques and then presents a varied sample of them in detail.

By the end of the course, you will gain practical experience with:

  • function testing and tours;
  • risk-based testing;
  • spec-based testing;
  • scenario testing;
  • domain testing;
  • multi-variable testing.

Description

In context-driven testing, we match testing techniques to the current context. This requires understanding, for each technique, what kinds of problems are more readily exposed by the technique and what kinds of problems are better hunted with another technique. It requires understanding of the skills, the knowledge and the resources necessary for using each technique. Without such knowledge, testers can pay lip-service to context-driven testing, but they won’t know what to do.

BBST Test Design is a survey course. We will browse through a large number of test techniques to get a sense of what is possible. Then we will focus on a few techniques that are very different from each other, so that you can develop some practical experience. The course suggests two frameworks for comparing and contrasting techniques and provides a large collection of references. These can help a student who is trying to decide how to test a particular product scan through the large set of possible techniques and pick a few for further evaluation.

You will receive individual feedback and guidance on each step of the way from your assigned instructor.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
