This course lasts four days with full-time classroom delivery. Within this time you will cover:

  • The roles and responsibilities of a tutor
  • Inclusive teaching and learning approaches
  • Principles and practices of assessment

By the fourth day you will have completed your practical assessment that requires you deliver a micro-teach session. You will also have completed much of the required worksheets and agreed a final date for submission of the completed work for your portfolio; to which you will be fully equipped to complete after your intensive 4 days.

Upon graduation, you can begin your career as a trainee teacher. The qualification is also an entry requirement for you to take your teacher training studies further.

This course is ideal for those wishing to begin their career in teaching. The award in education and training is the first stage towards becoming a fully qualified teacher.

Once completed, you will be able to begin teaching as a trainee teacher. Furthermore, you will be able to progress your studies towards both the Certificate in Education and Training (formerly CTLLS) and the Diploma in Education and Training (formerly DTLLS).

Please be aware however that this qualification will qualify you to begin your career, you will be required to take your studies further to either the certificate or full diploma as a condition of any employment. The award in education and training is a great starting point to enable you to do this.

Once completing the course, you will have gained a good overview of the basics of teaching. You will cover:

  • The roles and responsibilities of a tutor
  • Inclusive teaching and learning approaches
  • Principles and practices of assessment

Your tutor will work with you throughout the course and all delivery will be completed within the 4 days. You will then agree a date with your tutor as to when you will complete the remaining worksheets if you did not manage to complete them all during your 4 days. This is an intensive course, but it is delivered in a way that suits anyone wishing to begin their career and studies in teaching.

What does study method mean?

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

What is a ‘regulated qualification’?

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

What is an ‘endorsed’ course?

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body’s logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as ABC Awards and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
