Study Time Description
Total Qualification Time (TQT)
The estimation of the total time a learner is expected to spend demonstrating mastery of all learning objectives to receive the qualification (Level 3 AET). The full qualification time (TQT) estimates how much time a learner will commit to preparation, study, and assessment. It is not the basis for supervision by a lecturer, supervisor, or tutor. TQT defines the credit value in the case of qualification, and one credit equates to ten hours of study.
The total qualification time for this level 3 AET (PTLLS) qualification is 120 hours.
Guided Learning Hours (GLH)
All contact time, advice, or supervision of a learner by a lecturer, supervisor, tutor, trainer, or other competent education or training providers is included in these hours.
Level 3 AET qualification requires 48 guided learning hours.
The micro-teach session and teaching practice
**For this Level 3 AET course, at least an hour of microteaching must be conducted with the students. Each learner must deliver at least one 15-minute microteaching session, which is watched and assessed by a member of the center staff team. For the additional 45 minutes, learners can either deliver further microteaching sessions or observe the microteaching sessions of other learners.
**Learners can deliver a one-to-one training session, assuming they meet the qualification requirements. Students don't need to introduce themselves, establish ground rules, or incorporate English, math, and ICT throughout their microteaching sessions. As part of the unit Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches in Education and Training, teaching practice must be observed and evaluated by a member of the center staff team. Skype or other live media can be used when the observer and learner cannot be in the same room.
**Instead of participating in the micro-teaching sessions, learners currently teaching or training can be observed and evaluated with their students at work. If so, the practice session must last an hour. A delivery/assessment team member chosen by the approved center must monitor and evaluate the micro-teach session.
Kingston Open College partners with Apex Learning to deliver and assess this qualification.
