Overview
Autism is the general term used for a group of complex neurobiological disorders of brain development that persists throughout the lifespan of an individual. An individual with autism faces challenges in social and communication skills and also exhibit behavioural problems. Most cases of autism are due to unknown causes. Studies indicate that one out of 100 hundred individuals worldwide is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Difficulties in attention and motor co-ordination, intellectual disability as well as health problems like disturbances during sleep and gastrointestinal problems are often associated with Autism. Certain autistic individuals exhibit extraordinary skills in areas like math, art, music, etc and are employed in fields such as software testing, photography, commercial art, etc.
Description
Even though autism appears to have its roots in early brain development, it is between the ages of two and three that the major symptoms of the disorder start to appear. If the disorder is diagnosed at an early stage, appropriate behavioural therapies can be given to the autistic individuals to bring about improved results. It is very important that awareness about autism is spread in the society.

What is a ‘regulated qualification’?
A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.
What is an ‘endorsed’ course?
An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body’s logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
