- To reflect on current theory and improve your knowledge
- To understand the role of diagnosis, given the traits of Autism
-To understand the behaviours exhibited by some individuals with an autistic disorder
- To learn what challenging behaviour may mean for the family

This course is comprised of two key modules, with reflection exercises, short case studies and an assessment at the end of each module.

This module is designed to give you a good general understanding of Asperger’s Syndrome.

Doctors no longer diagnose people with Asperger's Syndrome, instead preferring to use the more inclusive term Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). However, it is important that you understand Asperger's, or "high-functioning" autism, as people who were previously diagnosed with this form of autism retain this diagnosis.

After this module, you will:

Understand the key characteristics of Asperger’s Syndrome (or "high-functioning" autism)
Learn about disorders associated with this form of autism
Understand the Triad of Impairment
Understand some key theories and research developed by Simon Baron Cohen
Learn techniques to support sensory, perception and anxiety issues
Practice applying understanding to exercises
Be able to explore further resources to enhance your knowledge and understanding
