Description
On completion of the course, students will gain an understanding of asthma, what triggers asthma, what to do in the event of an asthma attack and how to provide care that ensures the safety of the individual.
You will explore the anatomy of the respiratory system and how asthma affects the airways, and you will learn about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors that can increase the likelihood of asthma.
We will look at the different types of asthma and the triggers of asthma attacks and how asthma may manifest acutely and chronically. We will cover how asthma is diagnosed and the management that should follow once a diagnosis has been made.
We will cover how those with asthma can manage their symptoms with lifestyle changes and management plans. you will also learn about how asthma may impact education and employment and well as learn about the support options available.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.
Units covered
- Unit 1 – An Introduction to Asthma – In the first unit of asthma awareness we will cover the anatomy and functions of the respiratory system and how asthma affects the airways. You will also learn about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors that can increase the likelihood of asthma.
- Unit 2 – The types of Asthma – In this unit we look at the types of asthma in more depth and how these differ. You will also learn about the triggers of asthma and how asthma can manifest acutely and chronically.
- Unit 3 – Diagnosis and Treatment – In the third unit we will cover how asthma is diagnosed and the management that should follow once a diagnosis has been made. We will also learn about what to do in the event of an asthma attack and how to provide care that ensures the safety of the individual.
- Unit 4 – Living with Asthma – In the final unit we will focus on how those with asthma can manage their symptoms with lifestyle changes and management plans. You will also learn about the impact asthma can have on education and employment.

This course is useful to anyone who may care for or work with individuals with asthma, who wish to deepen their understanding of asthma.
Requirements
You are required to complete a 30 question multiple choice quiz at the end of the course. Where you need to achieve at least 80% or above to pass. You can complete the quiz as many times as you need to pass.
