Overview

Arrears can happen for many reasons. Every tenant who is struggling with arrears will have individual reasons as to why. If rent arrears aren’t dealt with then they can escalate, and legal action may be needed.

There are different ways that housing providers can work in partnership with tenants by dealing with the problem early and using positive practice models. No-one wants the stress and expense of eviction. If this can be avoided, then every effort should be made to agree a preferred course of action.
