Overview

A key function of social housing is to provide housing that is lower in rent for those who are most in need or struggling with their housing costs.

Unlike the private rented sector where tenancies are offered by the landlord to whoever they choose, social housing is distributed according to an allocation scheme.

Online assessment included.

Module 1. Social housing the basics

Module 2. Board, staff and tenants

This introduction to social housing course focusses on:

  • Who provides social housing
  • Developing an understanding of key housing terms

  • The importance of the board in governance and the skills members need
  • The key structures found in a well-organised provider

How it works

The key topics for this course have been broken down into lessons, each lesson dealing with a specific area of the overall subject. Each one has clearly set learning outcomes and assessment criteria.

You can progress through the course at your own pace. If you need to leave the course, it will remember where you left off, so when you return there is no need to repeat steps. We often include external links, videos, webpages, downloads, which provide excellent resource files.

At the end of each lesson is a knowledge checkpoint, you will need to achieve more than 75% to pass the lesson, which then unlocks the following lesson. Upon completion of the final lesson your certificate will be unlocked. You can save this as a PDF to your computer or simply print it off.

When

The course is self-paced so you decide at what pace the training goes. You will have 12 months access to the course and can revisit it as many times as you need.
