Through this qualification you will learn the basic concepts of social care work and help to prepare for a career working with vulnerable people. Being a knowledge only qualification, students are able to study this course online to fit in around home life.

This qualification is made up of units each representing a small step of learning. This allows the qualification to be completed at your own pace.

All of the units can be ‘banked’ which means that if you would like to take another qualification which includes the same units you do not have to take them again.

Each unit has a level which shows how difficult that unit is along with a credit value, unit aim, learning outcome and assessment criteria.

Qualification Summary

This qualification provides an ideal taster for learners who may be new to the sector or new to the world of work. It is accessible to learners from the age of fourteen who may want to understand more about working in health and social care. It aims to introduce some basic concepts of caring and preparation for employment in the sector.

It aims to introduce knowledge around the following areas relating to working in adult social care:

Learners do not need to be working or undertaking practical placements to take this qualification. To achieve this qualification, learners must complete all 9 mandatory units, gaining them a total of 20 credits.

Unit 1 – Principles of communication in adult social care settings

Unit 2 – Principles of personal development in adult social care

Unit 3 – Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings

Unit 4 – Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care

Unit 5 – Introduction of duty of care in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings

Unit 6 – Understand the role of the social care worker

Unit 7 – Understand person-centred approaches in adult social care settings

Unit 8 – Understand health and safety in social care settings

Unit 9 – Understand how to handle information in social care settings. This course is assessed through tutor marked assignments which must be sent to your tutor for marking. You will then be provided with feedback and a mark on your work from your tutor within 5 days. After each assignment has been sent off and marked as complete you will have passed the qualification and will receive your certification. This qualification comes with CACHE Level 2 certification. CACHE have been developing courses in the childcare, education and healthcare sectors since 1945 and are one of the most reputable awarding bodies for qualifications in the UK and overseas.

Practitioners working in these areas are much more employable having gained CACHE certification and many employers specifically ask for their qualifications when taking on members of staff.

What does study method mean?

What is an ‘endorsed’ course?

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body.
