Our AAT Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping course introduces you to the basic principles and skills of bookkeeping, and prepares you to progress to our AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting or AAT Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping courses.
Course fees (£268) include:
- Around six books (tutorial books, work books, question banks) from Osborne/BPP/Kaplan
- Pre-recorded lectures and revision videos via our online classroom
- Dedicated tutor support for 6 months via email/text/WhatsApp/phone/online meetings
- Xero Advisor Certification
Fees DO NOT include:
- AAT membership fees (currently £48, valid for one year)
- AAT assessment fees for two exams (usually around £75-90 per exam)
What will you learn?
After completion, you will be able to process cash and bank transactions; process sales and purchases; maintain sales and purchase ledger accounts and manage receivables and payables.
You will also be able to do reconciliations (bank, suppliers etc.) and prepare your trial balance. Finally, you will learn to process basic journal entries (also called double entries) and correct errors.
The course is made up of two units (each examinable by a computer-based exam):
1 – Bookkeeping transactions
2 – Bookkeeping controls
How will you be assessed?
You will be assessed through computer based assessments which can be taken at any AAT assessment venue. There are various assessment venues and centres available for AAT computer based exams all over the UK. Assessment fees are payable directly to the assessment venue.
You also have the option to do your exams at our exams centre in Milton Keynes for a discounted fee.
Who is this course for?
This course is an ideal starting point if you are seeking a career in accounting or are looking to sharpen your bookkeeping skills for your business.
This course will allow you to learn the core bookkeeping skills without having to do the full Foundation Certificate in Accounting qualification.
It would also be ideal for you if you are self-employed/running a business and want to learn how to record and process your business transactions.
We expect potential candidates for this course to have good literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
This requirement can be supported using:
- your GCSE (or other UK qualifications) grades
- any relevant work experience (including voluntary work)
- your result from AAT's free online Skillcheck test
You also need to have good IT equipment (a laptop/PC) with high speed broadband connectivity to watch the online videos and access the sample assessments.
You can progress to our AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting or Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping course after the completion of this course.
As for your career progression, you can look forward to being employed in roles such as bookkeeper, ledger assistant, sales ledger clerk, accounts payable clerk, petty cashier, payroll assistant etc.
