Description

The 18th edition IET wiring regulations were released in July 2018, and from January 2019, the design of new electrical installations have been required to comply with this latest version of these regulations.

The 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations refers to the 18th edition of the British Standard BS 7671:2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations. It is a comprehensive set of regulations that guides the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems up to 1000 volts AC. The regulations are published by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and are commonly known as the 18th edition wiring Regs.

If you work or are involved in the electrical industry, you will need to make sure you are designing and installing to the latest regulations. By gaining the City & Guilds 2382 qualification, you are demonstrating you have a knowledge and understanding of this latest version.

To keep the industry moving forward and installing to the latest standard, the 18th edition, like its predecessors, is now a pre-requisite for gaining employment, joining one of the competent person schemes, and applying or renewing JIB gold cards. Additionally, should you be looking to further your skills and gain further qualifications? The 18th edition is often the prerequisite for more advanced and practical electrical training.

The Part P of the Building Regulations is commonly called a domestic installer qualification. If you are planning on working in customer's homes, already work or are involved in the electrical industry and work in a domestic setting. You should make sure you are working in accordance with the Building Regulations. By gaining the City & Guilds 2393-10 qualification, you are demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the Building Regulations and electrical safety.

This qualification is not only industry-recognised but is considered one of the most useful by practising electricians to help generate business. The public instantly recognises Part P as a benchmark that they expect an electrician to be working to. With this Part P qualification, candidates will not only make themselves more employable to prospective employers but also help generate work if looking to work as a self-employed person undertaking electrical work in a dwelling.

The City & Guilds 2393-10 qualification is also a great way to show academic competency when completing non-notifiable works within a dwelling. Many of our candidates are associated trade professionals such as plasterers, plumbers, builders, handy-persons, DIYers and property owners.

To undertake any electrical work within a dwelling, you must have practical knowledge and skills. Passing the C&G 2393-10 qualification alone only helps demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of your obligations electrically within a dwelling.

Getting an ECS Labourers Card will give you access to construction sites and premises that require workers to demonstrate a minimum competency in health and safety. Along with the 18th edition & Part P qualifications, gaining an ECS labourers card will help you find work in the electrical industry.

This one-day face-to-face health and safety course is completed using Teams or Zoom. Completing the course, candidates will be awarded a SPA Health & Safety Passport, which can be used when applying for an ECS Labourers Card.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
