S Collins & Son is a family run traditional butchers shop in Muirhead (a few miles outside of Glasgow), Scotland.
It has a 60 year history, starting with the current owners’ grandfather, and has built an unrivalled reputation for premium quality produce and outstanding service.
All of the company’s fresh meat is of the highest quality and is sourced from local farms and markets; all backed by a full provenance guarantee. It also supplies a range of speciality items and in-house, handmade products.
Stewart Collins opened a butchers shop in Main Street, Coatbridge in 1955.
In 1970 his son took over the business, introducing home delivery services.
The current shop in Muirhead was purchased in 1979 and the original store was sold a few years later.
The business was accepted into The Q Guild of Butchers in 2000, meaning it met A-Rated EFSIS (European Food Safety Inspection Service) standards.
Stewart Collins took over the running of business in 2005 and started a programme of modernisation. This resulted in the turnover doubling to more than £1m over the course of the next five years.
He introduced a new ‘slimming range’ and launched the company’s first website, as well as entering and winning a number of industry awards.
Fraser Collins joined in 2009 to help manage the day to day operation.
In 2010 the business came runner-up in the Butcher Shop of the Year competition and also claimed six Smithfield awards. An extension to the property was completed which helped to accommodate the growth.
Triumph came in 2012 as the company was finally recognised as being Scotland’s Butcher of the Year and was invited onto the BBC’s Good Food Show. Another nine Smithfield awards were also added to its haul.
In 2013 a Gold Card customer loyalty and reward scheme was introduced. Further developments in 2014 included online ordering and a ‘click and collect’ service. The company also won Butchers Shop of Year Innovation Award 2014 for the Gold Card membership programme. Refer-a-friend initiatives commenced in-store in 2014 and nationwide online deliveries have been introduced in 2015.
S Collins & Son has recently been named as the Winner of Lanarkshire’s prestigious Business Excellence Award.
