Robertson is one of the largest independently owned construction, infrastructure and support services companies in the UK, with a strong confirmed order book, diverse income streams and a dedicated, expert workforce.
Covering the entire built environment lifecycle, we operate throughout the UK, with offices across Scotland and the North and Midlands of England.
The group was established in 1966 by our Executive Chairman, Bill Robertson CBE. His strategy of creating a broad range of companies – run as separate, fully resourced entities – has ensured strong growth, value-creation and career opportunities, and has led to the comprehensive group of well-run companies that exists today.
Robertson comprises 21 businesses, directly employing over 2300 people. These include regionally based construction companies, timber engineering, facilities management, a capital projects business dedicated to public sector partnerships, property development, regeneration, civil engineering, building services, and housebuilding for the private and affordable markets.
A strong entrepreneurial culture – built on the foundations of innovation, productivity and sustainability – permeates all of these businesses.
Although we encompass a variety of separate businesses and capabilities, we are one group with a common goal: working together to transform the built environment.
Developing positive relationships that endure long after each project has ended, we work in partnership with our clients to anticipate, understand and meet their needs. We use a knowledge-led approach to selecting and winning business, focusing our energy on where we can make a real difference to our clients. In the private sphere, we have developed key strengths in the whisky, commercial, leisure and retail sectors, enjoying high levels of repeat business from world-renowned brands and family businesses alike. Robertson has a strong history of working with the public sector, with particular expertise in healthcare, education, regeneration and affordable housing. In recent years, we have excelled in the investment in and provision of assets, along with the servicing of these facilities, through long-term concessions.
Our place on a number of major regional frameworks has put us in a good position to help our clients deliver essential, cost-effective and high-quality social infrastructure.

We asked some of our staff members what they enjoy most about working at Robertson. You can read about their working life below.
Rebecca Laing
Trainee Site Manager
When I started, I was just looking for a job. Then I grew interested in a career in construction.
Rebecca joined Team Robertson as an Admin Assistant at The Macallan, one of our biggest projects to date. Showing fantastic enthusiasm and aptitude, she quickly moved into a position as Trainee Site Manager, and is now going on to study Construction Management with her team's full support. "I was QA-checking the drawings and filing them, and then became interested in how things transferred from the drawings and onto the actual site. I learnt how to read the drawings and know exactly what's supposed to be there - sometimes I'm even able to find things that are missing, which winds the guys up! You get a good laugh with them.
Dale Friend
Assistant Site Manager
I hadn't expected Robertson to put me through the course, but they got it sorted - it's a great qualification to have
“Since I started working for Robertson Communities in 2012 when I was just 19, I have progressed from Community Attendant to Community Caretaker and I am now Assistant Site Manager. Ian Gibson, the MD, has been key to my quick progression at Robertson; he has inspired me to stick in and be the best that I can be.” As part of our Communities team, Dale was nominated for a BIFM Award, receiving the Highly Commended accolade. He has also received a Robertson Outstanding Contribution Award for his hard work and commitment
John Hodge
Assistant Site Manager
I've loved this past year. It's been a real learning experience, and a lot of fun as well.
“In the past year I've come a long way and have learnt so much. In a big way that's thanks to the culture within Robertson, and the training that's been passed my way has been really useful. The SMSTS site management safety training, the SVQ in construction management… But my personal favourite has been the Appointed Person for crane lifts – it fits in with my structural engineering background.
