We have loads of discussions about issues of business strategy, products (the detailed breakdown of planning and logistics enabling the long distance rides and how to promote these), other business services (Pony Trekking, Lessons and Short Breaks) with colleagues to identify public relations, marketing and social media requirements, including website design and development.
From April to October much work, although not all, is done away from our Head Office base in Tain. This involves working remotely with a laptop /iphone from pre-arranged locations as agreed with senior colleagues. It is during these times that the PR manager addresses individuals, clients and other target groups through meetings, presentations, the media and other front-line events to enhance the public image of our organisation. This includes communicating with customers participating in our long-distance rides and the accommodation providers which are usually the local hotels and/or B&B’s. From November to March all work is done from our Head Office base in Tain.
The use of social media platforms is increasingly of great strategic importance and as such the development of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, WhatsApp, Messenger, WeChat, QQ, Tumblr, Snapchat etc. will be essential in developing future PR responsibilities.
Website and Social Media responsibilities include the ability to:
• liaise with internal/external client in order to define the requirements for the website;
• present design options to the client;
• design web pages including graphics, animation and functionality to maximise visual effectiveness and facilitate appropriate access;
• develop the website and applications;
• design and develops web interfaces for relational database systems;
• establish methods to ensure appropriate website security and recovery;
• write and publish content for the website;
• test website interaction and performance prior to going ‘live’, and monitors and maintains functionality of the website.
The PR manager will oversee, develop and coordinate all these responsibilities.
The position also requires detailed knowledge of many factors which affect and are integral to our businesses:
• Ability to ride to a high standard (Ride Leader qualification required)
• Ability to make informed decisions under pressure
• Ability to risk assess planned rides and manage and assess unplanned emergencies
• Knowledge of horses and horse care
• Knowledge of horse tack and equipment specific to long distance trail riding
• Knowledge of Trail Rides with the ability to capture photographic material for promotional purposes
• Good Interpersonal skills with customers
• Good knowledge of Scottish Folklore, History and Geography
• Knowledge of Scottish geology, flora and fauna
• Market trends and developing marketing strategies
• The ability to translate this into publicity web design, social media platforms and other media.
• Be artistic, creative and articulate
The position requires a high degree of physical and mental fitness, and the ability to work irregular hours, away from home.
