E&M West was established in the Spring of 2009. The practice evolved from the regional office of Ellis and Moore; a London-based practice with a solid reputation dating back to its inception in 1977. E&M West’s Principal, Dr Jim Allen, was a partner at Ellis and Moore for 20 years, being responsible for a variety of multi-million pound refurbishment and new build projects. The Bath office has undertaken work for private individuals, commercial businesses, registered social landlords and both general and specialist contractors.
The business specialises in sustainable construction technologies, working closely with organisations such as The Green Register. E&M West’s Principal Dr Jim Allen was responsible for the engineering design of the ground breaking and award winning Great Bow Yard at Langport, Somerset.
Our interest in sustainable construction has led to design partnerships with developers of timber frame buildings and fabricators, and we have helped to develop systems that are evolving towards “whole house” concepts embracing modern methods of construction.
In addition to our commercial work, our structural expertise and knowledge of sustainable drainage systems is helping our partners to secure planning permissions, and in social housing to improve the code ratings of development programmes.
A client quote regarding the staff at E&M West: “You have always been professional and extremely helpful and good to work with.”
We recognise that in this rapidly changing design environment traditional boundaries blur and we are committed to communicating and collaborating with our design partners to deliver holistic solutions particularly where sustainable construction is a design priority.
E&M West also offer specialist design services extending into the area of building physics, and in relation to the appraisal of existing structures including more modern timber frame buildings.
