Working at Cornerstone

What we do

Every day across Scotland, Cornerstone provides care and support services for adults, children and young people with disabilities and other support needs.

We operate with a person centred approach and identify goals for everyone we support based on four key areas – increased social inclusion, improved health, improved independence and improved wellbeing.

Cornerstone is one of Scotland's largest charities and a leading provider of services for people with disabilities and other support needs.

Cornerstone was founded by Nick Baxter in 1980 when he brought together a group of parents and professionals who were concerned about the lack and quality of services available to people with learning disabilities and their families.

Since then Cornerstone has grown to:

  • support over 2,200 people
  • operate over 200 services
  • have 2 social firms
  • employ 2,000 staff
  • facilitate over 400 volunteers a year
  • have a turnover in excess of £36 million

We support people of all ages with a variety of needs, including:

  • learning disabilities
  • physical disabilities
  • autism and related disorders
  • head injuries
  • terminal illness
  • dementia
  • mental health problems

However, if Cornerstone can meet the needs of an individual, we would be happy to support them.

Our aim is to make a real difference to the people we support by enabling them to enjoy a valued life - the life they choose.

Work With Us

“At Cornerstone we believe that our people, both staff and volunteers, are our most valuable resource.”

Cornerstone is a leading provider of care and support services for people with disabilities and other support needs.

Our vision at Cornerstone is to be the first choice for care and support. We understand that well trained, valued and supported employees are crucial to achieving this vision and delivering high quality services for the people we support.

We recruit based on our values and behaviours and we will ask you how you demonstrate each value as part of the application process.

We believe that when people get together in an informal setting they are relaxed and can be more themselves. So instead of asking you for an interview we will invite you to a ‘Cornerstone Chat’ which may be in an individual or group situation depending on the role.

It’s not just about what you can do; it’s about who you are to and we will ask you to complete a One Page Profile. It’s important that we get to know what people like and admire about you so we can find out what you can contribute to our team.

Our values:

  • Caring - we feel and exhibit concern and empathy for others
  • Customer-focussed - we offer a truly personalised service
  • Professional - we offer a high standard of service that meets all regulatory requirements, delivered by qualified staff
  • Pioneering - we strive to be innovative in our thinking and to lead the way in the care sector
