We are Cordant: a business with purpose.
We provide recruitment, healthcare, security, cleaning and technical services to public and private sector organisations in the UK. We work collaboratively with our clients, co-designing solutions to achieve the best results. And most importantly, we collaborate with them at all levels to ensure the work we do together has a positive impact on society and on the lives of both individuals and communities.
Most importantly, we are a social business, which means everything we do, we do with one purpose: to improve society, person by person.
Cordant was founded in 1957 by the Ullmann family. Starting with security services, we became experts in the delivery of flexible resourcing solutions to meet the changing needs of our clients. The business grew, and we began offering other services: multi-sector recruitment, healthcare, cleaning and more recently technical FM solutions.
Sixty years later, and we employ around 125,000 staff each year who work on behalf of over 5,000 client organisations across a broad and diverse range of specialisms. Although we’ve grown, our strong family foundations mean that we’ve stayed connected to our employees, clients and suppliers, and to the communities we operate in.
In 2017, we took the natural next step: we became a social enterprise. We’re proud to be the biggest business in the UK putting purpose before profit, and to be amongst a group of forward-thinking companies who are using business to improve society.
We’re here to improve society; person by person
At Cordant, we want to see a stronger society. A society united by shared opportunities – where everyone can maximise their own potential, find fulfilment, and live meaningful and sustainable lives.
So we’re using our business to flip power on its head. We’re creating an organisation that prioritises the needs of each person over the profits of its shareholders. Which means we’ve moved away from a 'for-profit' model, to become the UK’s largest social business.
We’ve already capped our shareholder dividend and executive pay. Next, we’re delivering a five-year plan designed to improve all workers' opportunities, their pay, and the communities we operate in.
The profit-led ways of big business are a thing of the past – our success will now be measured in positive impact rather than bonuses and growth figures.
