What we do

About City of Wolverhampton Council

There’s never been a better time to join award winning City of Wolverhampton Council when we are at an exciting stage of transformation for the organisation and the city.

The council

We are an ambitious organisation working hard to deliver the best services for people in Wolverhampton; working for us gives you the opportunity to make a difference to their lives.

Our ambition is to be nothing less than ‘excellent’; this year we have been ‘Highly Commended’ in the Local Authority of the Year award category at the Municipal Journal (MJ) Awards and awarded the Best

Council Services team award for our leisure brand WV Active.

We are committed to working in partnership with communities, voluntary and private sector organisations and local businesses. Together we form the Wolverhampton Partnership to prioritise businesses, empower people and communities, re-invigorate the city and support the council to be confident and capable to realise our ambition to be ‘excellent’.

The City of Wolverhampton Council employs over 7,400 people (Including 3,200 school employees) in more than 600 different trades and professions. We are committed to eliminating discrimination and encouraging diversity amongst our workforce.  The council operates a Guaranteed Interview Policy for people with a disability and those who meet the essential criteria for the post are guaranteed an interview.

We are investing heavily in skills and training. There will be new roles and new opportunities which makes this an exceptionally exciting time to join us.

The city

The city of Wolverhampton is now amongst the top-ten economic growth areas in the UK, thanks to more than £3.7 billion-worth of investment on-site or planned. The city has already seen rapid developments with major projects like i54, The Way Youth Zone and i10 and more exciting developments are planned for the westside of the city. The leisure-led mixed user scheme includes a multi-screen cinema, restaurants, bars, hotel, multi-storey car park and apartments

We benefit from being in a prime location, with excellent transport links at the heart of the UK’s high speed rail and motorway networks.

Wolverhampton is also rated as one of the top cities in the UK for families. More than 80 per cent of the city’s primary and secondary schools are rated as ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. Wolverhampton also offers a wide range of family friendly facilities with stunning parks and green spaces and top entertainment attractions such as Wolverhampton Art Gallery, the Civic and Wulfrun Halls and the Grand Theatre all of which attract top acts such as Jimmy Carr, Gary Barlow, World Darts Competition, upcoming bands and West End productions.
