The Animal Health Trust (AHT) is a veterinary charity dedicated to improving the health and welfare of horses, dogs and cats. Despite popular belief, disease and injury are the most common threats to animal welfare, and we exist to reduce and prevent any unnecessary suffering.
Based near Newmarket, in Suffolk, the AHT has two animal clinics; one for dogs and cats, the other for horses. We are a veterinary referral centre, meaning that cases which are too complex to be treated by your local vet get referred to our world-class vets. We have a number of different units, each specialising in a particular area of veterinary expertise. Be it eyes, ears, noses and tails or anything in between, we're sure to have a clinician who can help.
Research is key at the AHT. We are committed to developing better means of diagnosing and treating diseases of companion animals. With our innovative and pioneering research programmes, we are at the forefront of developments for both inherited and infectious diseases. Our clinical and research experts work closely together to benefit not only individual cases, but the veterinary profession as a whole, internationally.
We also have a strong focus on education. As well as offering internships and residencies to young vets wishing to specialise in a particular area of their profession, we host more than 20 CPD courses every year and regularly send speakers to conferences. Our vets and researchers constantly publish papers increasing knowledge, in the wider profession, about new diagnostic tests, new treatments, new vaccines and new understanding of complex diseases. We have a 60-seat lecture theatre which enables us to host breed clubs, school groups and local organisations.
The work we do at the AHT could not be achieved without the help of those who realise the greatest threat to horses, dogs and cats is disease. As an independent charity we receive no government funding.
We rely on generous grants and donations to maintain our position at the forefront of veterinary progress for the benefit of generations of horses, dogs and cats. We are extremely grateful to all who support us so generously.
