If you’re looking to get ahead in the field of accountancy, but need a course that works around your other commitments, an online qualification could be for you. Not only can you study from wherever you are, you can also do it flexibly, at a cost and timeframe that suits you best.
We spoke to Eagle, one of the most experienced online distance learning providers, to find out how to become accountancy qualified online:
What accountancy qualifications can I study online?
There are a number of different certifications out there that will help you become an Accountant. Two of the most popular ones are AAT and ACCA.
They’re world renowned, and valued by employers in the field – making them the perfect choice for anyone looking to start or progress a career in accountancy.
They can both be studied entirely online, with AAT designed for beginners who are just starting out in accountancy, and ACCA suited to more experienced Accountants looking to develop their skills.
Overview: Provides a good grounding in the main principles of accountancy, including the double entry system, trial balances, the formal preparation of accounts, the monitoring of financial performance, and more. AAT is made up of four main levels. However, most learners will begin studying at Level 2 (as Level 1 is not compulsory), carrying on through to Level 3 and the final and most advanced stage (Level 4.)
Perfect for: People who are new to the field of accountancy.
Entry requirements: None. Just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
Average salary once completed: £25,000.
Overview: Provides a more in depth look into accountancy, allowing you to gain chartered accountancy status. It enables you to apply your theoretical knowledge in practical situations, using real life documents and invoices. Core topics include setting up customers’ accounts, allocating payments, generating reports, dealing with VAT issues, and much more.
Perfect for: People looking to progress their career in business, finance, or accountancy.
Entry requirements: Anyone can start the Diploma in Accounting and Business (foundations level) course, without prior experience or qualifications. However, you must have completed this before you can begin the Strategic Professional level.
Average salary once completed: £40,000.
How long will it take to get accountancy qualified?
This will depend on the course you take, and whether you study full-time or part-time.
Although you’ll usually be allowed to study at your own pace, it takes an average of 3 years to complete AAT, and an average of 5 years to complete ACCA.
How much will it cost to study accountancy?
