As a Technician in Strain Development at their Edinburgh facility, you will play a crucial role in advancing their research and development efforts to combat pests that threaten human health and global food supply. Purpose of the Job As a Technician in Strain Development, you will: Work within the strain development team to streamline processes and generate and characterise strains for field operations.Provide technical support across multiple projects, maintaining flexibility to respond to shifting priorities under the guidance of your line manager. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Maintain insect colonies and support experimental setups and data collection according to specified protocols.Record data meticulously and document activities within laboratory books or other records.Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and functional laboratory environment.Prepare and maintain laboratory stock solutions, insect diets, and equipment.Assist with health and safety records, and the writing and updating of SOPs, COSHH, and risk assessments.Communicate clearly with the strain development scientist and team lead regarding experimental status.Provide occasional weekend support as part of a rota within the R&D team. Required Skills & Qualifications A-levels in a scientific subject.Experience in a biological sciences laboratory, with insect rearing expertise being highly desirable.Excellent communication skills and a creative approach to problem-solving.Ability to adapt and thrive in an environment of change and ambiguity.Organised, diligent, and creative in problem-solving.Capable of working both independently and within a team.Resilient and adaptable, with a proactive approach to work.Empathetic and effective in building relationships. We are looking for an enthusiastic, tidy minded all about the detail character to learn the process of our new Automated Laboratory Production facility. Any previous experience in Chemical, Process manufacturing, Laboratory or Quality related activities would be an advantage however more importantly you will be bringing your organisation and attention to detail we can train the right character on everything else.The role is to manage two production areas Automated Chemical Production and the laboratory activities. Neither side is particularly physical, the production side is overseeing a cutting-edge automated computer ran system using PLC/SCADA systems, it does however need human intervention to set up oversee and maintain with good attention to detail for the smooth running of the process. As the process is heavily reliant on computer-based systems you will need to be confident with IT and willing to learn new systems.
