Laboratory Technician - Strain Development Location: EdinburghHourly rate: £13.16 p/hrContract Type: Approximately 5 months temporary contractHours: Monday - Friday, days only, 7.5 hours per day Join our client's innovative team dedicated to developing biological technologies for sustainable and safe pest control. As a Technician in Strain Development at their Edinburgh facility, you will play a crucial role in advancing their research and development efforts to combat pests that threaten human health and global food supply. Purpose of the Job As a Technician in Strain Development, you will: Work within the strain development team to streamline processes and generate and characterise strains for field operations.Provide technical support across multiple projects, maintaining flexibility to respond to shifting priorities under the guidance of your line manager. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Maintain insect colonies and support experimental setups and data collection according to specified protocols.Record data meticulously and document activities within laboratory books or other records.Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and functional laboratory environment.Prepare and maintain laboratory stock solutions, insect diets, and equipment.Assist with health and safety records, and the writing and updating of SOPs, COSHH, and risk assessments.Communicate clearly with the strain development scientist and team lead regarding experimental status.Provide occasional weekend support as part of a rota within the R&D team. Required Skills & Qualifications A-levels in a scientific subject.Experience in a biological sciences laboratory, with insect rearing expertise being highly desirable.Excellent communication skills and a creative approach to problem-solving.Ability to adapt and thrive in an environment of change and ambiguity.Organised, diligent, and creative in problem-solving.Capable of working both independently and within a team.Resilient and adaptable, with a proactive approach to work.Empathetic and effective in building relationships.
