Civils Site Manager - SUEZ Recycling & Recovery UKLocation: Sunderland, Tyne & WearReports to: Project Manager / Operations ManagerType: Full-time, PermanentJob PurposeTo manage and coordinate specialised civil engineering works across the SUEZ Sunderland site, including industrial concrete floor replacement, sub-base reconstruction, drainage, and infrastructure improvements, ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with CDM Regulations 2015.The Civils Site Manager will oversee contractors, site activities, health & safety compliance, programme delivery, and quality assurance within a live operational environment.Key ResponsibilitiesCivil Engineering & Infrastructure WorksManage and supervise specialised civil engineering activities including:Industrial concrete floor replacementSub-base excavation and reconstructionDrainage installation and repairsGroundworks and infrastructure upgradesReinforced concrete and hardstanding worksCoordinate labour, materials, plant, and subcontractors to ensure works are completed safely and on schedule.Ensure structural and site improvements meet engineering specifications and operational requirements.Minimise disruption to ongoing site operations during construction activities.CDM & Health & Safety ComplianceEnsure full compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 and company safety procedures.Review and approve:RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)Construction phase plansPermit-to-work systemsTemporary works documentationConduct daily site inspections, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.Monitor high-risk activities including excavations, lifting operations, confined spaces, and concrete works.Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions where required.Site & Contractor ManagementSupervise contractors and subcontractors working within a live industrial environment.Coordinate daily site activities and monitor progress against programme targets.Ensure all personnel comply with site safety, environmental, and operational procedures.Maintain effective communication between project teams, engineers, and operational staff.Quality & Environmental StandardsEnsure works are completed to required quality standards and engineering specifications.Promote environmentally responsible working practices including sustainable material use and waste reduction.Monitor environmental controls and ensure compliance with site permits and company procedures.Complete inspections, snagging, and project handover documentation.Reporting & Stakeholder CoordinationProduce daily and weekly progress reports.Attend project and planning meetings with management and engineering teams.Liaise with operations teams to coordinate shutdowns and access requirements.Maintain accurate site records, permits, inspections, and compliance documentation.Essential Experience & QualificationsExperience managing civil engineering or industrial infrastructure projects.Strong understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 and construction health & safety legislation.Experience supervising contractors within live operational or industrial environments.Knowledge of groundworks, reinforced concrete, drainage, and infrastructure works.Essential CertificationsSMSTSCSCS Manager CardFirst Aid at WorkDesirable QualificationsNEBOSH Construction CertificateTemporary Works Coordinator/SupervisorCPCS / NPORS plant knowledgeExperience within waste management, heavy industrial, or infrastructure sectorsKey SkillsCivil engineering project managementContractor and subcontractor coordinationHealth & safety leadershipCDM complianceQuality assuranceProgramme and resource managementDCS Recruitment and all associated companies are committed to creating a working environment where diversity is celebrated and everyone is treated fairly, regardless of gender, gender identity, disability, ethnic origin, religion or belief, sexual orientation, marital or transgender status, age, or nationality
