Framatome is a major international player in the nuclear energy market recognized for its innovative solutions and value-added technologies for designing, building, maintaining, and advancing the global nuclear fleet. The company designs, manufactures, and installs components, fuel and instrumentation and control systems for nuclear power plants and offers a full range of reactor services.The UK subsidiary Framatome Ltd employs over 400 staff in Bristol, Cranfield and at our client sites with strong growth in technical and engineering jobs. Our plans are to grow by around 100 staff annually through the development our UK nuclear service offerings.What are we hiring for?The Head of Government Affairs will lead strategic engagement with UK government bodies, Parliamentarians, industry bodies, regulators, and key stakeholders to shape and influence nuclear policy in support of Framatome. This senior role involves developing and executing a comprehensive government affairs strategy, fostering cross-party political support, and representing the organization at high-level forums and events. The position is pivotal in ensuring the organisation’s interests are effectively communicated and advanced within the UK and devolved governments.This role will require high levels of coordination both within Framatome at local and group level alongside managing relationships with EDF and group companies such as Arabelle Solutions.What will you be doing?Strategic Leadership & Policy InfluenceDevelop and lead the organization’s UK government affairs strategy aligned with business and policy objectives.Represent government affairs, stakeholder management, coordination and policy topics as part of the Framatome leadership team informing our own strategy, positioning us for success and best enabling our transformation programme.Coordinate with Framatome Group government affairs personnel to ensure alignment within both the group and at wider EDF Group level as required.Influence UK and devolved government policy on nuclear energy, including planning, licensing, financing, and regulation, in coordination with group organisations.Ability to develop, support, review and guide the creation of business cases for key strategic projects.Provide strategic counsel to Framatome senior leadership on political and regulatory developments impacting the organisation and wider nuclear sector.Stakeholder EngagementBuild and maintain strong relationships with Parliamentarians, civil servants, industry bodies, regulators, and third-party advocates.Coordinate and lead one-to-one engagement programmes with MPs, MSPs, and Members of the Senedd and specifically for those local to our organisations offices.Represent the organization at industry working groups, political events, and external forums.Coordinate with Framatome group companies to best position, progress and support key projects such as the proposed Fuel facility.Parliamentary & Political AffairsMonitor legislative developments, debates, and Parliamentary Questions (PQs) relevant to nuclear energy.Draft briefings, consultation responses, suggested PQs, and policy submissions for Parliamentarians and government officials where required.Support any industry bodies, All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) and Cross-Party Groups on Nuclear Energy.Event Management & AdvocacyLead the planning of political engagement events such as Nuclear Week in Parliament, Party Conferences, and industry receptions in coordination with Sales and the Communications and Marketing team.Internal Collaboration & ReportingCollaborate with internal, group and wider stakeholders on communications, policy, and external affairs to ensure consistent messaging and alignment.Maintain a database of political contacts and engagement records.Support internal communication on related topics including weekly updates and reporting as required.Report on government affairs activities, outcomes, and strategic priorities to senior management.What are we looking for?Extensive experience in government affairs, public affairs, or political lobbying or related strategic role within the nuclear industry (7+ years).Good understanding of UK parliamentary procedures, business case development, policy development, and legislative processes.Ability to influence policy and build cross-party political support to help meet business objectives.Strong written and verbal communication skills tailored to diverse audiences.Strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.Passion for energy security, net zero, and the role of nuclear in the energy transition.Relevant higher degree to the field.DesirableExperience working within the UK Parliament or devolved institutions.Knowledge of the UK civil nuclear industry and its regulatory landscape.Experience in a membership organization or industry association.Personal Characteristics: Self starter, manages upward.Drive to go the extra mile to win a tender.Confident manner, excellent presentation skills.Determination – not easily discouraged or put off.Innovative – prepared to see beyond how it has been done before.Positive outlook – always sees opportunity through any adversity.Assertive – gets things done when they need to be.Be curious and question things, not take things on face value.
