CMM Engineer Derby, UK £45,000 – £50,000 Monday–Thursday: 7:30am–4:00pm | Friday: 7:30am–12:30pmAbout the OpportunityA well-established advanced manufacturing organisation within the aerospace and precision engineering sector is seeking a Metrology / CMM Engineer to play a key role in improving measurement capability across its operations.This is a high-impact position focused on optimising CMM processes, improving inspection efficiency, and standardising metrology practices across multiple sites. The role offers the opportunity to influence group-wide engineering strategy, introduce modern metrology techniques, and help drive continuous improvement in a highly regulated manufacturing environment.If you enjoy combining hands-on CMM expertise with process improvement and technical leadership, this role provides a strong platform to shape how measurement systems are implemented across a growing organisation.The RoleKey ResponsibilitiesEvaluate and improve existing CMM programming, inspection strategies, and measurement methodologiesConduct site reviews and gap analysis to identify opportunities for improvement across multiple facilitiesDevelop and implement a group-wide metrology and CMM strategyStandardise programming practices, inspection plans, and measurement frequenciesImprove efficiency by optimising CMM cycles, probing strategies, and fixturingIntroduce automation and offline programming techniques to increase throughputSupport quality reporting including FAIRs, capability studies, and SPCProvide technical leadership and training for CMM programmers and inspectorsWork closely with Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Design, and Operations teamsSupport customer audits and technical queries related to measurementContribute to New Product Introduction (NPI) ensuring robust measurement strategies are implementedWhat They’re Looking ForExperience & SkillsExperience working as a CMM Programmer or Metrology Engineer in aerospace or precision engineeringStrong proficiency with CMM programming software (particularly PC-DMIS)Solid understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, tolerances, and complex geometriesExperience with measurement system analysis (MSA), SPC, and capability studiesKnowledge of probing systems, fixturing, and inspection methodologiesExposure to automated inspection systems, laser scanning, CT, or non-contact metrology is beneficialFamiliarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practicesQualificationsHNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering, or a related disciplineCMM or metrology-related certifications are advantageousAdditional DetailsLocation: Derby, UKWorking hours: Early finish every FridayTravel: Some travel to other sites may be requiredIndustry: Aerospace / Precision Manufacturing
