Always Improving.People Drive Progress.Role PurposeThe Driver Trainer is responsible for leading the company’s driving and training school, supporting the Transport Manager in maintaining full legal and regulatory compliance, supporting the Head of Excellence in driving standards and continuous improvement, and providing operational support through planning and driving activities when required.Key Roles & Responsibilities Compliance & Regulatory SupportSupport the Transport Manager in ensuring full compliance with DVSA, Traffic Commissioner, and Operator Licence requirementsMonitor and support compliance with drivers’ hours, Working Time Directive, tachograph rules, and road transport legislationConduct driver licence checks, CPC compliance checks, and ongoing driver compliance monitoringSupport internal and external audits, investigations, and corrective action plansPromote a strong safety and compliance culture across the transport operationDriver Training & Development (Lead the Driving School)Lead, develop, and manage the company’s driver training and induction programme Deliver driver CPC training, induction training, refresher training, and remedial training Design and deliver training on:Safe and fuel-efficient drivingLoad securityVehicle checks and defect reportingAccident prevention and incident reductionAssess driver competence through on-road assessments, coaching sessions, and performance reviewsSupport new driver recruitment through assessments, mentoring, and onboardingMaintain accurate training records and driver competency filesSupport Head of ExcellenceWork closely with the Head of Excellence to improve driver standards, performance, and professionalismSupport continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, efficiency, sustainability, and customer serviceAnalyse driver performance data (telematics, incidents, fuel usage) and implement improvement plansChampion best practice across driving standards and operational excellenceOperational Support (Planning & Driving) Support transport planning activities when required, including route planning and resource allocationProvide cover driving duties to support operational continuity, peak demand, or absence coverAct as a role model driver, demonstrating best practice, compliance, and professionalismLiaise with operations teams to ensure service delivery, customer satisfaction, and efficiency Incident, Accident & Performance Management Support accident investigations, driver debriefs, and root cause analysisDeliver corrective training following incidents, infringements, or customer complaintsSupport disciplinary processes relating to driving standards when requiredReduce incidents, claims, fuel usage, and vehicle damage through proactive driver coachingLeadership & Communication Act as a trusted point of contact for drivers on training, compliance, and performance mattersCommunicate clearly with drivers, management, and stakeholdersPromote a positive, professional, and safety-first driver cultureSupport change management and new initiatives across the transport operation Administration & Reporting Maintain accurate training, assessment, and compliance recordsProduce reports on training completion, driver performance, and compliance metricsSupport policy development and continuous review of driver-related procedures
