Mechanical Design Engineer
Our client, a high technology business, is currently seeking a hands on Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in the manufacturing sector. This permanent role requires significant experience in mechanical engineering, with responsibilities spanning mechanical design activities across the business. The role involves working collaboratively with engineers and colleagues both in the UK and US to ensure product design and manufacture ability meet client needs. Key Responsibilities: Take ownership of the physical mechanical design process of all products to ensure they meet standard design guidelines and policyDesign components for radiation detection systems based on product and customer requirementsUse CAD software (Solidworks) to create and modify parts for CNC machining, injection moulding, sheet metal bending, and 3D printingBuild models and prototypes to validate and test designsProvide lean solutions to challenges arising during the product development life cycleLead and participate in peer design reviews to ensure best design practicesSupport and direct the team to produce specifications for products and materials to be used in productionCollaborate with electrical engineering, software engineering, physics, and sales to ensure new product designs meet customer requirementsSupport tool/design meetings for new product introductions, informing teams on parts, assembly, timing, and cost issuesUtilise external experts when required and make informed decisions on design issuesDevelop and maintain lean mechanical engineering processesDelegate responsibilities and supervise the work of direct reports, providing guidance, coaching, and motivation Job Requirements: Confidence and resilience in dealing with stakeholder challengesAbility to multi-task, attention to detail, and strong analytical skillsExcellent time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to adapt to changing prioritiesGood judgement, knowing when to flag issues and when to deal with them independentlyCollaborative and inclusive team memberStrong verbal and written communication skills, alongside excellent presentation skillsUnderstanding of electrical design requirements and their influence on mechanical designUnderstanding of project/task managementExperience using Design Failure Mode and Analysis (DFMEA)Experience in the design and testing of EMC and IP compliant equipment Knowledge: Degree in mechanical engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experienceHands-on mechanical engineering experience in designing, developing, and testing technology productsProficient in SolidWorks design suiteWorking understanding of SW FEA packageDesigning and producing engineering solutions for varied environmental requirements (e.g., temperature, vibration, shock, ingress protection, EMC)Current manufacturing techniques knowledge (e.g., sheet metal fabrication, machining, plastic moulding)Material property selection for different fields and global climatesCompliance through design analysis and testingDetail drafting and geometric tolerance practicesDocumentation control processes and engineering change managementKnowledge of BOM constructionStructured problem-solving tools and methodologies If you are a skilled Mechanical Engineer seeking a new permanent role within a dynamic and innovative environment, we would love to hear from you.
