Music Therapist Location: OrpingtonJob Type: Full-time We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Music Therapist to join our team at a specialized SEMH school. The Music Therapist will use music as a therapeutic tool to support the emotional, cognitive, and social well-being of our students. This role involves working with children and adolescents who have a range of social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them to express themselves, develop coping strategies, and improve their overall mental health. Day-to-day of the role: Conduct individual and group music therapy sessions tailored to the needs of students with SEMH challenges.Develop and implement personalized treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including teachers, psychologists, and other therapists.Use a variety of musical interventions to address specific therapeutic goals, such as improving communication skills, enhancing emotional regulation, and fostering social interaction.Assess students’ progress and adjust therapy plans as needed to ensure effective outcomes.Maintain accurate and confidential records of therapy sessions and progress reports.Provide training and support to school staff on the benefits and techniques of music therapy.Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to the overall therapeutic strategy of the school.Stay updated with the latest research and best practices in music therapy and SEMH education. Required Skills & Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music Therapy from an accredited institution.Certification as a Music Therapist (MT-BC) or equivalent.Experience working with children and adolescents with SEMH needs is highly desirable.Strong musical skills and proficiency in playing multiple instruments.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for helping students achieve their full potential. Preferred Skills: Knowledge of various therapeutic approaches and techniques used in SEMH settings.Experience in conducting assessments and developing individualized treatment plans.Familiarity with the educational and therapeutic needs of students with SEMH challenges.Ability to create a safe and supportive environment for students to explore and express their emotions through music. Working Conditions: Full-time position with standard school hours.Some flexibility may be required for after-school programs or special events.The role may involve working with students who have complex and challenging behaviours.
