Job Title: Senior Civil Engineer Location: Glasgow, Glasgow City Duration: 7 months plus Job Description: We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to lead and oversee the production of civil and structural engineering deliverables within the UK Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Global Practice. This role involves working closely with the Section Manager to assemble and manage civil and structural engineering personnel and deliver successful project outcomes for electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure. The Senior Civil Engineer will play a key technical role, ensuring that civil/structural engineering designs are compliant with relevant standards (BS/Eurocodes/ENA) and will lead work packages related to substation components, foundations, structural steelwork, and other civil and structural elements. This position requires advanced knowledge in design management, industry-specific standards, and T&D infrastructure. Key Responsibilities: Lead civil and structural engineering deliverables within the UK business, ensuring compliance with national and client technical standards.Undertake the role of Lead Project Engineer on multidisciplinary project teams for electricity T&D infrastructure, including substations, overhead lines, and high-voltage underground cables.Produce detailed design packages, including civil/structural analysis of foundations, steel structures, and other substation components using industry-standard software (Revit, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, TeklaTedds, etc.).Lead various civil project designs such as site design, land development, roads, drainage systems, stormwater management, and utility design.Provide mentorship to less experienced engineers and support the Section Manager in growing the Civil/Structural Section’s capabilities.Ensure adherence to CDM regulations, including acting as Principal Designer Representative where required.Review and approve civil and structural engineering designs, ensuring technical quality assurance and compliance.Act as Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) as defined by National Grid’s TP137 procedure.Maintain project compliance with the client's Integrated Management System and promote a strong safety culture in all designs. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) from an accredited institution.Professional registration as a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council (preferred).Membership in a relevant professional engineering institution (e.g., ICE).Relevant Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH Cert./Dip., NVQ Level 3 in H&S).Minimum of 7 years of civil/structural engineering design experience, with at least 5 years in the electricity T&D sector.Experience acting as a Lead Civil/Structural Engineer on National Grid Electricity Transmission projects and fulfilling the role of TP137CDAE.Strong knowledge of National Grid’s Transmission Procedures, including TP135, TP137, TP141, TP153, TP163, and other relevant technical specifications.IT literate with experience using Microsoft Office and BIM software (Revit, Civil 3D, etc.).Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Experience with CDM regulations and understanding of procedural control of Temporary Works. Desirable Qualifications: Membership in a Health & Safety organisation (e.g., APS, ISC, IOSH).Experience in substation safety and access training (e.g., NSI 30, BESC).Formal training in CDM 2015, Temporary Works, and Impressed Voltages.
