Job Title: Biomedical Scientist Team Manager - Microbiology Location: Essex Salary: £46,148 to £52,809 Per Annum + £5,000 joining bonus Job Type: Permanent, Full time & Part Time We are currently recruiting for Biomedical Scientist Band 7 Team Manager to join our fast paced and dynamic Microbiology team. This role is part of a team which provides an efficient and effective Microbiology service to two general hospitals (Southend University/Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital Trusts) and local GP community. We are willing to consider both full-time and part-time applicants for this role. We're the first lab in the UK to be able to offer some Specialist BMS staff the opportunity to read bacterial cultures from home, utilising BD Kiestra Synapsys technology. Responsibilities: To provide clinical analytical services for patients and service usersTo manage day-to-day staffing in area of responsibility to ensure safe service delivery and maintenance of TATsTo be involved in, and in some cases responsible for, service developmentsTo supervise and ensure training and competency assessment of staff in area of responsibilityTo carry out appraisal of staffTo participate and in some cases be responsible for recruitment of staffTo be responsible for QC and QA in area of responsibility, ensuring non-conformances are investigated, documented and changes to practice identified where necessaryTo participate in and undertake auditTo be responsible for writing and maintaining SOPs in area of responsibilityTo report, investigate and monitor errors and incidents as per policiesTo have oversight of reports released from area of responsibilityTo authorise default fail queues for area of responsibility (i.e. reports not sent to consultant authorisation)To monitor KPIs for area of responsibility, ensuring TATs are maintainedTo be responsible for risk and COSHH assessments in area of responsibilityTo attend, and chair where required, departmental meetingsTo deputise for Principal BMS as required Qualifications: HCPC registered and Specialist portfolio or equivalent in Microbiology.Management qualification to ILM level 3 or relevant experience.MSc / FIBMS (by examination) / IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma and is currently in possession of Fellowship Class of the IBMS or equivalent experience.Able to work across 3 different sites in a 24-7 work environment if required.Able to work with a high degree of accuracy, numeracy, interpretive skills and good problem-solving skills.Able to demonstrate a good knowledge and experience of industry standard laboratory information management systems and computer applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Statistical Packages.Working knowledge of Microbiological manual and automated techniques and practices.Working knowledge of Molecular biology techniques and platforms.
