My client is a market leader in the provider of waste management solutions which specializes in recycling waste materials, to create re-usable products in restoration, manufacturing and energy conversion. Reporting to the Operations Director, the role of transport manager will be a hands-on role, fully involved with the day-to-day running of the transport department while also ensuring an excellent end-to-end service to the customers. We are looking for a transport professional with exceptional people management skills who have the drive and passion to play a key role in the continued growth of the business.
Driven by performance KPIs, employee engagement and operational efficiency, the transport manager will be responsible for the effective management of all aspects of performance across the department. The ideal candidate will be safety focussed and have a proactive management approach concentrating on leading and developing the team.

The Role:

Oversee all transport operations:

  • Be a key member of the management team supporting and developing wider strategy and progression
  • Working closely with your Transport Team, plan and delivery an excellent level of service to the customers, ensuring collections and deliveries are carried out on time
  • Drive continuous improvement by working closely with Customer Service Manager and Senior Account Managers
  • Improve operational policies, procedures and systems to ensure a high level of service is provided to the customers by working in conjunction with both the site operations and customer service teams
  • Maximise efficiency and department performance of transport operations in line with KPI's with responsibility for budgets and cost control
  • Responsible for developing an in-house training to ensure all staff are trained to maximise the best customer service
  • Lead and maintain the highest standard in health and safety
  • Prepare and delivery accurate reports in-line with performance and KPI targets



The Person

  • Transport professional with a track record of managing and developing teams
  • Proactive and safety focused individual with a positive and can-do attitude
  • Highly organised with ability to prioritise and plan workload to meet business goals
  • Important to have strong communication expertise and have the interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships both within and out with the department
  • Have an approach that leads, develops and mentors their team and be focused on delivering results and objectives
  • Strong PC skills and knowledge of Microsoft packages
  • IOSH
  • National and/or International CPC
