We are currently working with a construction company who delivers the installation and maintenance of various products. They are looking for an apprentice to train as a Project Engineer. This is an office based position in Westerham with studying to be undertaken at London South Bank University.

Training for either a BTEC HND or Degree in Building Services Engineering will be at London Southbank, Southwark Campus. The level can be discussed during the interview.

Please note: the course is part-time day release over 3 years commencing in September.

Trainee Mechanical Project Engineer - Position Overview

The modules cover a wide range of mechanical and electrical building services. Energy conservation and environmental impact is always at the forefront of our teaching, as well as developing your management and communication skills. Additionally, other skills such as building related maths and science, technical skills and team working.

The successful candidate will be taught the following:

  • Day to day running of Projects.
  • Estimating Project from drawings.
  • Take off materials/plant and place orders.
  • Attending site meetings and carry out site surveys.
  • Coordination between other contractors
  • Take instructions from clients, make necessary changes.
  • Cost variations.
  • Produce final account.
  • Compile Operating & Maintenance manual.
  • Safety and Quality control of the project.
  • Understand how air conditioning ventilation and heating systems work.
  • Design, pipe sizing and duct sizing.

Trainee Mechanical Project Engineer - Position Requirements

  • Competent in using computer software such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Not be enrolled on another funded apprenticeship or another funded further education or higher education programme at the time you start your new apprenticeship.

Degree Apprenticeship Requirements

  • Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above).
  • In addition candidates must have either:
  • A Level (BBC)
  • BTEC National Diploma (DDM)
  • Access to Engineering qualifications with 15 Distinctions and 30 Merits
  • Equivalent level 3 qualifications (worth 128 UCAS points)
  • Level 3 qualifications must include Maths and Physics

BTEC HNC Requirements

  • 64 UCAS points or equivalent level 3 qualifications.
  • If you do not meet the entry criteria above we also review any previous skills, knowledge or experience you have gained outside of your education and are happy to talk through any extenuating circumstances you feel relevant.

Trainee Mechanical Project Engineer - Position Remuneration

  • Opportunity to join an established company.
  • Paid to work - you will be paid a wage whilst you're completing your course.
  • Varied working weeks - you will spend your time split between the office, practical training on site, and time at London South Bank University.
  • Salary between £15,000 - £22,500 (depending on age)
  • Access to a pension scheme (22 years old +)
  • 20 days holiday + bank holidays
