On behalf of our client an inspiring well known brand - we’re looking for a Trade and Customs Administrator who will be responsible for supporting a specific project within the Trade and Customs department to review, collate and submit, retrospective import duty reclaims to HMRC.

This is a great opportunity to obtain Trade and Customs experience and a foot in the door with a leading UK business

Please note this role is initially offered on a 6 month fixed term contract paid by the employer with a strong chance that this will be extended

Role Purpose:

Working with the Trade & Customs Manager, Procurement and external Suppliers, the administrator will support a project that will involve the reviewing of import data and origin documentation, liaising and communicating with the wider Customs Team, Procurement and Suppliers - ensuring that any documentation received is in line with the relevant legislative provisions.

Key internal interfaces include Finance and Purchasing. Key external interfaces will be with Suppliers and third-party customs agents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The candidate must have demonstrable experience of attention to detail, tenacity and of working in a fast-paced environment and preferably experience of working manufacturing environments.
  • Customs knowledge and experience is desirable but not essential
  • Develop and deliver regular progress reports / presentations to communicate status of import / export operations and driving actions within functions
  • Seek out efficiency improvements to optimize Trade and Customs operations
  • Ensure that the company receives the appropriate proof of origin documentation to enable them to utilise Free Trade Agreement (FTA) provisions upon importation in the UK.
  • Review documents to ensure that they are in-line with legislative requirements.
  • Liaise with suppliers if documentation is missing or not in-line with requirements.
  • Escalate non-responsive / non-compliant suppliers to Purchasing.
  • Support the T&C Manager to collate and submit reclaim requests to HMRC.
  • Work with the T&C Manager to develop and deliver regular progress reports / presentations to Senior Management.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong IT skills using office tools (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work cross functionally and build effective relationships.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of automotive, manufacturing, retail or logistics supply chain operations (Desirable)
  • Technical and operational knowledge and experience of customs and international trade legislation (Desirable)
