Our client, a Major Operator is seeking a Technical Manager. This is a Permanent staff role based in London and attendance in the office is expected at 3 days per week. Previous experience in the offshore wind industry is essential.

Reports to: Senior Project Manager within the business and the JV structure.


Job Dimensions:

Direct Reports: line management of the engineers in the project and day to day work of selected staff in the project, transverse management and coordination.


Activities:

The Technical Manager is responsible for the technical and engineering strategy for the project. Primary responsibility is to define and implement the engineering strategy and be the main internal expert on all project technical elements.


Main responsibilities:

Developing, implementing and managing the design and engineering strategy for the project, be responsible for delivery of the strategy, including program and budget, and risk management,
Contribute to the financial modelling by developing robust Capex assumptions and contingency planning
Providing technical support and knowledge expertise in respect to time, costs, safety, quality and interfaces of all aspects of the project.
Work with other parts of the project team to establish the design basis (geotechnical investigations, metocean data, wind data, bathymetry etc.)
Analysing existing designs and implementing technical standards with special focus on interfaces between design and construction phase.
Prepare technical and engineering decisions to be made, present recommendations to senior management,
Liaise with subject experts, define scopes for internal subject experts to deliver, follow up of deliverables,
Prepare tender documents, define scopes of engineering studies, coordinating tenders and following up contracts for specific engineering tasks (internal and external),
Managing interfaces with other areas of technical department and other departments to ensure the successful completion of the project.
Ensuring risks are addressed / reported, mitigation action determined and that risks are minimized or closed out.
Promoting and working within the Project Management, Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Procedures and ensuring HSE / CDM requirements are implemented.
Providing regular progress reports to the Senior Project Manager and input to project’s reporting standards on budget, planning, KPI’s, lessons learned, etc.
Coordinating project participants with regard to design aspects (project team, procurement, onshore technical support, external designers, suppliers and installation/logistics contractors
Coordinate certification of design.


Required Experience and Skills:

The postholder will be a degree qualified engineer with substantial experience and knowledge of offshore wind project development. The candidate should have some experience in contract and subcontractor management.
Previous experience in the offshore wind industry is essential.


The postholder will be required to demonstrate that they have the following capabilities:

Excellent organisation skills with the ability to manage own workload, meet timescales and coordinate a number of external and internal stakeholders,
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to enable effective discussion and transfer of information between, contractors, team members and other stakeholders,
Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken),
The technical skills to understand complex offshore operations and the ability to exchange with and understand subject experts.
Ability to work as a member of a large, multidisciplinary and international team
Ability to use Microsoft Office.
