This is a unique opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team supporting service users across a number of small complex care services and residential care homes in Yorkshire and Humber (Grimsby, Barnsley and Rotherham).

You will have some experience of working with adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, and have a passion to learn and develop, to join our friendly and supportive team.

As a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, you will work 37.5 hours a week to:

  • Assist in clinically related activities, including working directly with service users
  • Clinical administration
  • Conduct and develop audits and/or research projects
  • Creation of documentation
  • Training of staff.
You will engage and work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that service users are fully engaged in their care pathway, with significant focus on providing communication support to Autistic adults and adults with a Learning Disability.

With support and supervision from the Regional Lead Speech and Language Therapist, you will develop and implement individualised communication interventions and communication supports based on service users’ needs and strengths, encouraging co-production of service, service user independence, and development of life skills with a focus on improving quality of life.

You will support with induction programmes, delivering training on communication for new starters at the company, bespoke workshops for individual service users’ communication methods and needs, and other training programmes as required.

The role involves travelling to different services within a geographical region, so a driving licence and access to a car is required.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with the people to develop and implement individualised easy-read versions of their care documentation in order to promote co-production.
  • Completing speech and language assessment tools and analysing results (with support from the SLT)
  • Creating and maintaining the bank of Communication related documentation for the region
  • Supporting with staff training and development
  • Providing high-quality written reports (supervised by the SLT)
  • Attending regular clinical and service development meetings
  • Being an integral part of the multidisciplinary team
  • Contributing to audit and research

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience of working with people in a similar or related field relevant to the post
  • Knowledge of communication approaches
  • Have a good understanding of the legal frameworks that are relevant to the role (e.g., Mental Capacity Act)
  • Literacy and technology skills to be able to create reports and utilise specialised communication aid software
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
