ROLE- Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

LOCATION- Surrey

TERM- Permanent

SALARY- £45,000-£55,000, dependent on experience

My client manufactures specialist equipment for a variety of industries. They are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Surrey on a permanent basis.

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar Design Engineering position
  • Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Ideally be experienced managing and leading teams of Design Engineers
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including sheet metal, fabrication, welded parts and machining
  • Be proficient using 3D CAD software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo etc.
  • Knowledge of a variety of materials – sheet metal, injection moulded plastics etc.
  • Good theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge of core principles and tight tolerances
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Proficient using MS Office
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management skills
  • Have the ability to work well alone as well as part of a small multi-disciplinary team


The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:

  • Leading a team of 4-6 Design Engineers
  • Using CAD (mainly Inventor and SolidWorks) for concept design and producing technical drawings
  • Design for welded and fabricated sheet metal parts
  • Creating component and assembly models to satisfy customer requirements
  • Liaising with manufacturing providers
  • Being involved in final assembly of products
  • Creating the required documentation for design as well as project reports / plans
  • Updating 3D models and drawings
  • Inputting parts into the MRP system creating BOMs
  • Checking drawings for sign off
  • Working in a small multi-disciplinary team on varied projects
