Summary

Are you passionate about Collections care and looking for an opportunity to develop your leadership skills? We’re looking for a Senior Collections and House Officer to join us at Kedleston Hall to deliver high collections care standards and great visitor experiences.

This is a fixed term contract due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months.

What it's like to work here

Exciting times lie ahead as we open our doors to a growing number of visitors and establish a long-term plan for the development of our visitor offer. As a team we are committed to co-creation, exploring full histories, and working to ensure representation in our work and decision-making process. We want to be part of a world that celebrates and values diversity and we know that process has to start with our people and our internal culture.

Kedleston Hall is a neo-classical show-palace that also houses a significant Asian collection of over 1,000 objects in a dedicated museum. Welcoming over 200,000 visitors a year we aim to create wonder by celebrating art and design, from exploring the art and culture of our unique collection of objects from across the Asian Continent to unpacking how 18th-century design has impacted our world today.

What you'll be doing

Managed by the Collections and House Manager, you’ll lead on the preventive conservation plans, from cleaning routines to environmental management, and on delivering engaging ‘Conservation in Action’ to enrich the visitor experience. You’ll be supported to deliver this by two Collections and House Officers and three Collections Assistants, the latter you will manage.

You’ll support the Collections and House Manager with remedial conservation work and compliance tasks including salvage.

Alongside this you'll deliver the daily Hall operations and support with collections-based programming. This includes leading with the management of the Hall volunteers, ensuring our presentation standards are delivered and being part of an operational rota as House Lead, doing 1 in 3 weekends.

This is an operational role and you'll largely be expected to work on site at Kedleston Hall.
