Job Title: Category Buyer

Location: Greater Manchester

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000

Overview:

Are you an experienced Category Buyer looking for new opportunity to develop your career within Procurement? Responsibilities: As a Procurement Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the timely acquisition of raw materials. Working closely with planning, sales, and operations teams, your goal will be to exceed customer expectations. Additionally, you’ll manage the procurement of indirect materials and services to meet operational requirements.

Skills:

  • Fast-Paced Environment: Comfortable working in an agile manufacturing setting
  • MRP and JIT Proficiency: Understands Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Just-In-Time (JIT) delivery profiling
  • Effective Supplier Communication: Able to liaise with suppliers of all sizes and adapt approaches as needed
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship-building abilities with both suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Negotiation and Adaptability: Skilled in negotiation and adaptive thinking for timely materialization
  • Tenacity: Ensures accurate system updates and strives for optimal outcomes
  • Manufacturing Background (Beneficial): Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Team Player: Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in Sage, Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily procurement activities for raw and indirect materials
  • Ensure timely updates to all relevant systems
  • Expedite orders according to production plans to meet customer expectations
  • Collaborate with planners to identify production risks and escalate to senior management
  • Participate in daily production and planning meetings, providing status updates
  • Work with the Head of Procurement (HOD) to secure competitive pricing and hedge material risks based on marketplace trends
  • Maintain appropriate stock level
  • Minimize material outages by sourcing alternatives through collaboration with the HOD and Technical department
  • Contribute to cost-saving initiatives as directed by the business
