Prospero Teaching are currently supporting a specialist provision in the Portsmouth area that is dedicated to supporting students aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Their mission is to provide a comprehensive education that includes academic, functional, and vocational skills, ensuring every student thrives in a nurturing yet stimulating environment.

The opportunity they have available is for an SEMH Teacher who is ideally primary-trained. This position offers a competitive salary, including an SEN allowance, reflecting the schools commitment to attracting skilled professionals who are passionate about making a difference.

About You:

  • You are an innovative, compassionate, and resilient educator with experience or a strong desire to work within SEMH.
  • Your role will be pivotal in fostering a trauma-informed environment, supporting students with complex needs and behavioural challenges.
  • You will have a primary teaching background with an ability to engage and inspire students with SEMH needs.
  • We are looking for teachers who can teach across a range of subjects including English and Maths in addition to their own specialism.

Key Requirements:

  • Primary teaching experience.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs is desirable.
  • A solid understanding of differentiated learning experiences and behaviour management within a trauma-informed framework.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development in SEMH and special education.
  • A collaborative approach to working with parents, carers, and other professionals.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Planning and delivering a curriculum that meets the needs of individual students across Key Stages 1-4.
  • Implementing positive behaviour management strategies in line with the schools values and procedures.
  • Creating a positive, nurturing environment that motivates, engages, and inspires students.
  • Commitment to the safeguarding and holistic development of young people.
