What it's like to work here

You'll be part of the National Trust's Consultancy: a multidisciplinary team of experts, from curators and nature conservation advisors to project managers and archaeologists, who provide specialist consultancy advice to the places we care for. You'll report to our Consultancy Manager for our Land and Nature team in the North East.

Your contractual location can be any of our regional Consultancy hubs in the North, but our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working. You should expect to be on site at Fountains Abbey or elsewhere in the Skell Valley at least 20 – 40% of the working week.

What you'll be doing

You'll line manage an existing project team comprising a Senior Project Co-ordinator, a Heritage Officer and a Senior Volunteering & Community Officer, so your people management experience and inclusive leadership will be critical. You'll have your ‘finger on the pulse’ of all our projects and outputs, supporting individual project leads to ensure that all are completed successfully, on time and to budget. With £600,000 remaining in our delivery budget, you'll draw in additional resources where needed, managing risks along the way. You'll keep a firm hand on governance, finances and reporting, maintaining an excellent standard of project management right to the end of the scheme.

Whilst we focus our efforts on completing and celebrating the Skell Valley Project, we are also considering what the next phase of delivery will look like with our partners and stakeholders. Your abilities to ‘horizon scan’ will be called on through this final year to aid legacy planning and fundraising.

Who we're looking for
  • Project Management Qualification or equivalent with experience of working on major or complex projects in a multidisciplined environment.
  • Excellent project management skills, ability to make decisions and drive projects forward.
  • Brilliant communication skills including the ability to lead project teams successfully.
