We are seeking an experienced Nursery Production Manager for our client in Woking, Surrey. Our client specialises in the sale of living plants to Garden Designers and Landscaping companies, orders are facilities either by delivery or through the Cash & Carry located on site.

Our client is also forward thinking about their environmental impact by utilizing biological controls over chemical pesticides and using 50% peat reduced compost and, since 2021, have put their own production of compost to peat free.

Responsibilities

  • To oversee the day to day running of the nursery production and stock control functions.
  • To ensure timely, accurate and efficient completion of production tasks.
  • To identify areas of inefficiency and work with the rest of the management team to put in place improved procedures.
  • To identify strengths and weaknesses amongst the office and production team and to train and motivate them to achieve the required standards of performance.
  • To ensure that all Company Policies are adhered to.
  • To maintain morale and discipline amongst head office staff.

Duties

  • Ensuring communications are maintained between yourself and the rest of the Production Team to discuss and prioritise work.
  • Manage the production team to lead their workload, preparing worksheets for stock control and production teams and keeping the work board updated,
  • Producing weekly potting plans and monitoring the quality and timeliness of completion.
  • Preparing an annual Production plan and liaising with suppliers and the propagator to ensure that all young plant material is available on a timely basis.
  • Monitoring crops ensuring P&D issues are identified and crops are moved to a saleable state on a timely basis.
  • Manage rotation of stock and space to facilitate efficiency of potting tasks.
  • Routinely assessing effectiveness of the irrigation systems.
  • Using Growmaster software to inform the production schedules, raise purchase orders and manage stock numbers and locations.
  • Working with the MD and the senior managers to develop the Company’s systems for the purpose of improving efficiency and accuracy of the relevant processes.
  • Assist in researching and developing responses to regulatory change.
