Principal Software Engineer

A World-Classtechnology company founded in Edinburgh are looking for an experienced Principal SoftwareEngineer, ideally with a good background in Java and AWS, to lead a couple of their core squads. Really Modern Tech, great culture and flexible working on offer.

They've been operating very successfully now for well-over ten years and are recognised as the market leaders within their field. They're currently going through a period of growth as they're scaling up several of their products and squads, so it's a really exciting time to join.

Within this role you'd find yourself looking after two to three Agile squads (roughly 25 Engineers) each of which are currently looking after business-critical products. This is definitely regarded as a 'hands on' role, and you'll be expected to get regularly involved in coding - predominantly in the backend with Java, you'll be seen as the subject matter expert within your squads.

You'll also be involved in the project road map for all three teams, working closely with the Lead Engineers, advising on the technical strategy and helping them to implement this. A lot of the squads are currently focusing on scaling their products to deal with the ever-increasing demand, so you'll have a good background in this.

In addition, the company place a really big importance on best practices and you'll be expected to really champion this within your role to make sure all the teams are delivering software to the highest possible level.

You'll ideally have good experience with the following;

** Strong Programming skills; ideally with Java (but may consider Python)

** Software Architecture

** Cloud Services (AWS, Azure or GCP)

** Proven experience in a similar role

The following is highly desirable;

** Apache Kafka

** Front-end experience (ReactJS with TypeScript)

** DevOps tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraforms)

They've got custom-built offices in central Edinburgh, which includes pool tables, games consoles, even their own Gym and much more. They have a really flexible working pattern for this role but do hope you could in pop for the meetings and when necessary.

In return they're able to offer a salary from £85k to £110k (depending on ability and experience) and a really strong benefits package to match; which includes multiple bonuses and uncapped holidays.
