My client is a leading engineering company specialising in the manufacture of high-precision devices for the science and healthcare sectors. Due to a sustained period of growth Found Recruitment have been instructed on an outstanding leadership position within the design department. 

As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer working for this forward thinking and innovative business your role will be extremely varied, the design work is highly complex, and the project values are usually within the tens of millions of pounds from a revenue perspective. 

Alongside being a talented and entrepreneurial design professional, you should also possess natural leadership capabilities and be willing to enhance your professional development further at every given opportunity. 

Day to day duties of the Principal Design Engineer: 

•    Supervision, leadership and ongoing motivation of a team of 10-12 Mechanical Design Engineers, at various levels of experience. 

•    Review drawings and design results.

•    Analyse component data and assess for suitability for design for manufacture (DFM).

•    Overseeing and delivering on design projects from concept through to completion.

•    Performing mechanical design calculations and analyses using FEA tools.

•    Producing 3D designs using the company design software (experience with SolidEdge or NX would be extremely advantageous).

•    Generating the Bills of Materials (BOM’s) to go with the associated designs.

•    Working cross functionally with colleagues and departments on other engineering tasks and ad-hoc projects as required.

•    Degree BSc / BEng qualification in Mechanical Engineering.

•    Proficiency with 3D CAD software - ideally SolidEdge or NX but other software will certainly be considered.

•    Relevant manufacturing sector background with experience working on designs for manufacture.

•    Proven experience supervising others and leading teams.
